Boy or Girl.....?

Today I had my 18 week appointment, although I am 19 weeks today. The heartbeat was good at 143 and we could hear the baby moving all around via the doppler. I have put on 4 lbs which is a good number I think, now to just be careful over the holidays! Dr. Later came in and we talked and he asked if I had my ultrasound scheduled. I told him it was next Thursday and he said, "Well do you want to know what it is today or are you keeping it a secret?" I wasn't sure if he had just asked me if I wanted to find out today or if I misunderstood. I sat there trying to figure out what was going on and how to respond when I finally said that I wanted to find out today. He said that we might as well because we were in the ultrasound room and he didn't mind taking a peek a little early for me. I was ecstatic! We have finally found a little girl name so I was thinking that we could start calling the baby by it's nameWe saw all the little parts except the part we wanted to see....there sat our baby with it's legs crossed as tightly as could be. He jiggled my tummy to try and get the baby to move but the baby sat there like it was trying to win Don't Break the Egg on the trampoline. So, our baby is officially a tease just like their big sister. I guess we will just have to wait till next Wednesday and hope that it's not quite so modest!

New Haircut

We took Phia to get a haircut today and had it cut to her chin instead of just trimmed. It sure made her look like a 2 year old. I told Shane I didn't know it would make her look so grown up! I will have to shoot for a better picture later as she was tired, grumpy and beyond silly!

She Can Sleep Anywhere!

It seems like every week lately that Delphia falls asleep in some weird place. Last Sunday that place was at the kitchen table while eating her grilled cheese sandwich for dinner. She wasn't acting tired but after a couple bites this is what she was doing.
We kept waking her up to take another bite and then she would fall back asleep. We had to keep checking her mouth to make sure it wasn't full of unchewed food!

Turkey, Turkey

I printed off a bunch of Thanksgiving activities at the beginning of November but between just being busy and being sick not much has gotten done. Last week she wanted to color and has been really interested in what the actual colors are lately so I grabbed the turkey from the pile and off we went.
First you colored each feather the color written on it.....and cut them out.

Ten, her favorite part was the glue. She helped squeeze the glue on the turkey she had colored while I was cutting the feathers out.

Finally you have a finished turkey to hang on the fridge!

Sunny Day Hat

This morning I asked Delphia to get her shoes out of bedroom drawer and instead of getting hr shoes she came back into the bedroom and proclaimed this was her sunny day hat. She wouldn't take it off and she wore it for about 3 hours. I don't know where she got the idea that it was her sunny day hat but it cracked me up. She loves to wear hats and jackets and refuses to take them off.

Pizza Sauce and Pizza

On Wednesday I really wanted pizza after seeing a new crust recipe over on a food blog I frequent. We were going to make it that night but ended up having a late lunchand our power going off. We got the sauce and crust made and took it to my mom's to make for dinner last night. I will definitely be making it again and again! It was delicious and easy to make as the crust is all done in the Bosch and not by hand! The sauce is better than any store bought sauce I have had and extremely easy and very cheap to make! Delphia had fun helping Shane make the sauce but she thought that she could open the cans by herself with the can opener!

Chewy, Crusty Pizza Dough
I make this dough a lot, but it really requires a tough mixer or a lot of elbow grease. The key to a chewy crust is using your bread paddle & mixing it for quite a while. I also use the same dough for breadsticks. Half for pizza - half for breadsticks. or....This recipe will make 2 large pizzas.
You will need:
1 package active dry yeast...I use quick rise
1 teaspoon sugar
about 4 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1 tsp. salt
2 teaspoons olive oil
1 1/2 cups very warm water not so hot that it will ruin your yeast!
Directions:
In large kitchen Aid bowl, combine yeast, 2 cups flour, 1 teaspoon sugar and 1 tsp. salt. Add olive oil. Heat water to (120 to 130 degrees F.) I just get very warm water from the tap, but not scalding. With mixer at low speed, just blend water into dry ingredients. Now, at medium speed, beat 3 minutes, occasionally scraping bowl with spatula. Beat in 1/2 cup flour to make a thick batter; beat at least 2 minutes more. Stir in about 1 1/2 cups flour to make a soft dough, and beat for at least 2 more minutes. If your dough is too sticky, add a little more flour if necessary. Dough should be in a nice soft pliable ball. I remove this from my bowl, grease the bowl with oil, and replace the dough in my bowl. Cover with Saran wrap, and let rise until doubled. Punch dough down, cut in half; turn onto lightly floured surface. Cover 15 minutes. Grease 2 large cookie sheets or Use pizza stones, or 2 large pizza pans, that have been oiled. I also dust a little cornmeal on top of the oil, then spread my dough out. Use the Pizza sauce below, then add good mozzarella cheese, and your choice of toppings. Bake pizzas at 500 degrees oven on middle to lower rack. Enjoy!

My favorite Homemade Pizza Sauce
1 8 oz. can Tomato Sauce
1 6 oz. can tomato paste
1 tablespoon sugar
1/4 tsp. Oregano
1/2 tsp. Garlic powder
1/4 tsp. Italian seasoning (opt)
2 Tablespoons Parmesan Cheese (opt)
Combine all ingredients in bowl and blend well. This is enough sauce for two large pizzas.

My Ears Are Broken!

Monday was a terrible night! Delphia woke up at 2:30 Tuesday morning just crying and crying! Shane went and layed with her but she didn't fall asleep and when he left she kept crying. I went and layed with her for an hour and finally got sick of being kicked in the head so I left at 4:30 and went back to my bed. She cried on and off until 5:45 when I went to get her to bring her in my bed. She just kept crying. I had asked if her ear hurt and she said no. In fact I asked her if other things hurt and everytime the answer was no. Finally about 7:30 we decided to take her to her pediatrician and make an appointment for later that morning. I asked if she wanted some Tylenol and she said she did. I gave her some hoping it would ease whatever was bothering her. She took it and went staright to sleep until Shane got home and the for another 30 minutes or so. We got ready and were getting ready to head out the door and she kept saying, "I ready to go doctor. My ears broken!" We told her that Dr. Erickson would fix it and headed on our way. When we got to the office Dr Erickson came in and she was fussing about everything. He finally tried bribing her with stickers: Cars, Spongebob, Carebears but she wasn't biting so I suggested Dora and he said he thought he had some. He went to look and found 2 different ones that he had to dig for. He told her she could have one if she let him look in one ear and have the other if he could look in the other ear. She let him look in both ears, albeit unwillingly but she still got stickers and Dr. Erickson confirmed that she had a double ear infection. She is feeling better now but that night was sure miserable! As we were driving up to the doctor we were listening to 5 Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed via Delphias request and after is was over She said, "I go to doctor just like the monkeys!" It suprised me that she related that to the song!

Picnic Time Daddy!

On Monday when Shane got home from work and after we had eaten dinner I was working on some stuff for my dad. I heard Delphia declare from the entryway, "Daddy, time for picnic, c'mon!" Shane told her he would be there in a minute and she continued to call for him. He came into the entry way and she had her picnic basket set out with all her food. Shane askd if the strawberry was his or hers and she said, "Share daddy!" However, the cucumber was hers and they each had a bunch of grapes! She has such an imagination and they had a fun little picnic!

Aprons and Cooking!

Last week my ward did a sewing night and they were sewing aprons. I have made aprons before but didn't have a pattern for a little kid one. I decided to go and came home with an almost finished apron for Delphia. I just had to put all the parts together and add a few touches of my own such as ribbon on the pocket and the ruffle. The apron is actually reversible, so the other side is the exact opposite of the front. However the only way I could get Phia to try it on for me was to put gummy bears in the pocket!

On Wednesday we made a pie, rolls, pizza sauce and dough and bread so we both donned our aprons (Phia's complete with gummy bears) and went to town ntil our power went off while I was mixing rolls. Luckily my bread was done, we were just baking rolls at 11:15 that night!

Piano Sitter

Phia loves to play the piano....we have also found recently though that she loves to sit on the piano. She smiles and tells us it's okay and we tell her it's not and make her get down but before we know it she is back up and sitting on the keys!

Mmmm.....Chocolate!

Last week I was craving brownies so I gave into the craving and Delphia and I whipped up a batch. She helped me mix and dump and chop the walnuts. When I was cracking the eggs I got a piece of shell in th batter but before I could grab it she had started to mix and it was gone. So I figured out of a whole pan of brownies what were the chances that I would get the shell. Well, the second and last brownie I ate contained the one egg shell in the whole pan. Just my luck! I think Phia's favorite part was licking the spatula!

Think She's Tired?

Delphia just goes and goes and she gets really silly when she is tired. However, on occasion she just stops in her tracks and falls asleep. Today was one of those days. It was about 4:30 and she wanted to watch Lucy and when we told her she could she asked for a popsicle. We let her have one one time and ever since Lucy and popsicles are related. We gave her a popsicle and set her on a towel to eat it. Pretty soon I saw her lay down but didn't think much of it because she often lays down and watches tv. However about 2 minutes later I thought, "I bet she is asleep." I asked Shane and he said she was awake. I sat up in the chair and she looked like she was out. I asked Shane if he was sure se was awake and he looked at her and we just started laughing!

Pregnancy Update....

We went to my 14 week appointment on Wednesday even though I was a little over 15 weeks. We got to hear the heartbeat which was 141 and I mesured at 15-16 weeks. I haven't gined any weight as of yet and Dr Later told me to try Prilosec for my heartburn that I get every night about 30 minutes after I eat and it hangs on all night! Luckily it works! They also moved my ultrasound up to Dec 3rd instead of the 10th since I will be 20 weeks by then! Shane didn't understand why a week makes such a big difference but the ladies in the office did and were glad to comply with my request! I also got my H1N1 shot since they had extra and were giving them on the delivery floor!

Phiaisms....

Just wanted to jot down a couple funny things Phia has said lately....

We showed her the antelope the other day on the way to my moms and she sarted calling them jackalope. Two days later we were driving to Costco and she told me, "I see no jackalope." I told her that they didn't have antelope in Sandy. She looked at me and said, "Daddylope, Mamalope?" I said that yeah there were Daddy and Mommy antelope. She continued with, "Grandmalope and Grandpalope?" It amzed me that she connected that she had all those things so antelope must also.

Grandma GG has been down for the past 2 weeks and Delphia has enjoyed spending time with her. If she couldn't see at my moms she would say, "Where Grandma GG?" When she would wake up I would ask if she wanted to see Grandpa. She would say, "Grandma, Grandpa and Grandma GG."

We ate lunch at my mom's on Wednesday after my MD appointment and as we were eating my Grandma told Shane there was Coke in the fridge if he wanted one. He told her he didn't. However Phia piped up and responded with, "I have a Coke?"

Halloween Year 2

Delphia had a ball going trick-or-treating. She got a chance to practice when I took her to Alpine to trick-or-treat in the office. She knew exactly what to say and what the end result would be.

Her is her and her cousin Chloe all dressed up and ready to go trick-or-treating.

Her most scary part of the evening was when Uncle Todd came around the corner wearing this.....

She ran into the house faster than I have ever seen and was just shrieking and then she fell and was trying to get to a safe place. When wegot to her she was just shaking. Todd took the mask off and she waved at him and said, "Hi" really quiet like, "I am nice, don't scare me." She finally kind of got used to it but not to the comfortable point that Chloe was.

We went trick-or-treating up and down my parents street and then went back to their house to see where Todd, Meg and Chloe went. When we walked into the driveway Phia said, "No, no, no! More houses!" We ended up taking her on the big wagon but it only lasted a little bit until she decided that she didn't want to ride, but pull it with Daddy instead. She would go to a house and say trick or treat and thanks and then we would walk back to the sidewalk and she would say, "New house!" We kept asking if she was cold and she would tell us she was fine. When she got back in Grandmas driveway she said, "I freezing!" and wanted her coat on since we were done. On the way back to my mom's she was sorting through her candy on the wagon and naming things that she knew and asking what other things were. We had a fun halloween!

Oh What Fun a Broom Is!

Yesterday Delphia had fun helping Grandma sweep the leaves in the backyard. She was tickled that she had her own broom to help sweep with. The only problem was that she was more of a hinderance than a help! She was actually sweeping the leaves out of the pile, so Grandma had to send her to a different pile so that she could sweep them into the garbage. After they were done she kept telling us that the garbage man was going to pick the leaves up. She loves he garbage man and watching him pick the garbage up.
